Oriya cinema in the eye of a non-cenema person !
In 80s, when I was a primary school student, It was craze in Bhubaneswar to see cinema in my uncle’s village Bomikhal. We had Sriya , Swati , Kalpana and Rabi Talkis then. The whole area was also named by this cinema hall. The owners of cinema halls were treated as BIG MAN in those days. It was so prestigious in those that someone from my uncle’s village had vowed to set up a cinema hall. Finally it happened in a time when cinema hall started doing bad in business. Name of this monumental cinema hall is Ekamra Talkies.
Let us talk about Bollywoood’s impact on Oriya cinema. Orissa has produced many awards winning cinema in Oriya language. But it still could nit come of to get rid of its trap. Bollywood masala, Bollywood khandaan and style are basic necessity in an Oriya cinema to get business success. People with Mumbai links are hero there and heard more than the people struggling there itself. People even were writing ‘Ganesh Mohapatra, Bombay’ to boost him as he has links with Bollywood.
The influence of Bollywood is still there in Oriya language cinema. I feel it will continue! Yes, I am not a cinema person!
Expecting a politician to leave cast/religion based politics is like expecting a businessman to do business without profit motive. : IITB research scholar Sachin Datt
Sachin Datt is a research scholar in IITBombay. He is doing his research on story telling based educational curriculum. As part of his research, he has traveled to countryside to learn from traditional community life.
Blogger Loknath Swain has met him in one slum of Mumbai to quiz his views on politics and grassroots development.
Loknath: What is your understanding of politics?
Sachin : The design of parliamentary system is flowed. The idea of one man representing a thousand people is root of non-workability of political system.
Blogger : OK , what we are seeing.. The politics is being based on cast and religion. No politician has grassroots development of as his objective.
Sachin Datt: It should not be. The focus should be development.
Blogger: How can it change?
Sachin Datt: A business man says. “Do not talk about ethics. Why a politician will abide by ethics? Why should people expect politician to talk about ethics? ”
Blogger : Then, what we need to do?
Sachin Datt: The root cause is something else. The design of parliamentary system in which one person represents more than thousand s of people, should be changed. Society must be accountable for its own development rather than giving the whole responsibility to one person. The politician is now middleman between society and progress.
Blogger: How will that happen?
Sachin Datt: Educational institution must have social development as part of their curriculum .Students from early age to higher education should be involved in community development projects. Education should lead the way of social development. Senior entrepreneurs must get involved in institution building.
Blogger : How politician will leave cast and religion for grass root development?
Sachin Datt: They can not leave cast and religion based politics. It is like asking a businessman to stop making profit.

Manage traffic to solve traffic problem !
I am living in Mumbai for over 3 years. My biggest worries are related to the traffic problems in Mumbai. I used to return from my Worli office. But I face a lot problem in reaching IIT gate area where I stay. As the bus reaches at L&T , the traffic problem starts . From L& T area to IITgate is, it will take more than half hour to reach. Most of my co-passengers start walking. I used to do that.
It is not only problematic for me . It is same thing for all. I had an appointment to meet Prof Girish Kumaar of IITBombay. Prof Kumar cautioned me: Loknath always add time for the Powai – IIT gate traffic time in your time planning when you are coming from Worli. As an alternative I have taken train to commute.
What I have done, I have learned to manage my travel in low traffic area instead . Once I was to accompany Prof Girish Kumar of IIT Bombay from Worli in his car. He requested me to show his way to come to IIT gate from Worli. I was guiding him to come via Mahaim- Bandra- Vakola-Andheri – Powai – IIT Bombay. He wanted me to guide him to go through Eastern Express High way. the road to IIT is from Dadar via Plaza – Chembur- Vikhroli – IIT. I went as per his suggestion. I could reach without problem.
One day I reached in office 1.30 hour late. I told my boss about the traffic problem I faced when I came from IIT gate area to Worli by bus. He suggested me the same Chembur way and told it could have been better for you.
Traffic problem of Mumbai is a very big problem. It can not be solved overnight. It has root in our economy. Mumbai will keep attracting people migrants like me. We are here as it had given us better livelihood options in comparison to our native place. I am from Orissa. I had come to Mumbai for better livelihood and adjusting with the city life as it is still giving a life which I am thinking better ( not better ?) than my state. I do not think to change the traffic problem. Rather I tell all to learn how to handle traffic problem. Understand the city’s road map properly. Travel accordingly.
On the other hand it will add to the management of Mumbai’s traffic! I believe one of the best way to add solutions to Mumbai’s traffic problem is to educate people on how to manage traffic
Good news for students:Buy/sell your college notes on www.pencilji.com
By chance, I came across a portal www.pencilji.com. It is in Beta phase and from Bangalore. With the help of the portal, college students can sell his/her old college notes. You can also buy valuable college notes.
www.pencilji.com came into existence to fulfill the needs of what everyone craves for – knowledge. Better yet, the sharing of knowledge. Students, teachers, tutors, and just about any person you know have some type of knowledge to share with the world.
www.pencilji.com has provided an online marketplace and community (they prefer the term ‘Army’) for people to begin spreading their knowledge to others in need, to others who desire, and to others who can’t live without.
I had tried to go the site in detail. As per their language, “Nowadays going to the library and endless hours with your head in a book trying to figure out why World War II started is boring! This is the 21 st Century and the computer has become our new book! We all know that we’d rather be surfing the web looking for information that trying to find it somewhere else. Well, that’s what Pencilji is all about – an Army where people share knowledge to others who seek it.” As far as my knowledge base is concerned, this is really India’s first specialized portal (world’s first? I need to check with Silicone Valley database…!) of this kind.
The start up is just out and, probably, will not be far away from VCs if they would be in a position to put a “revenue model” in place. They are now trying to market the product actively to students directly and through various other mediums including interactive PR.
This is happening thing to track!
Visit the site!! May be , an way is waiting for you to make some cash ! Is it not a good news?
